VISIO system is designed for automated visual and dimensional inspection of circumferential weld joints of pipes from 300 mm (12 inches) and more. VISIO can be used either as part of the XPRESS-SCAN digital radiography complex or as a standalone device. The main purpose of the system is to acquire, process, and archive digital profiles characterizing the shape and dimensions of weld joints.

The unit consists of a laser triangulation 2D scanner mounted on a carriage, which moves along the annular weld on a pipe band according to a pre-set program. Inspection can be performed both with the module stationary and in motion: the carriage moves from one position to another, covering the entire weld joint. The control results of the weld joint are transmitted to the operator’s PC in real-time wirelessly.

• The system provides continuous scanning with a one-millimeter step, recording the data along the entire seam in one go.

• The complex allows building a three-dimensional model of the weld and rotating the resulting three-dimensional image at different angles for better visualization and defect detection.

• An automatic marking is applied for exceeding or reducing weld height (highlighting in different colors), as well as for the weld width and edge offset.

• Fast installation and scanning remarkably decrease the circumference weld inspection time, especially when used together with the DR system XPRESS-SCAN.

• An optional photo camera is available for parallel shooting of specific weld sections and alignment to the built-in three-dimensional scan (automatic matching data from the laser and the camera).

• The laser sensor beam is not affected by bright sunlight.
